Gifted & Talented Program

In a Kindergarten Gifted and Talented (G&T) program aligned with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards, scholars undergo a curriculum designed to both challenge and enrich their advanced cognitive abilities. The program integrates key areas of development within the broader framework of the standards, fostering a holistic educational experience.

First Grade

1st Grade encompasses a variety of skills across subjects. In English Language Arts, scholars will focus
on developing reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. In Mathematics, they will deepen their
understanding of foundational concepts such as addition, subtraction, and place value. Science and
social studies standards introduce scholars to inquiry-based learning, exploring topics like ecosystems,
communities, and historical events. Additionally, scholars will continue to develop their social and
emotional skills, including collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.

Gifted & Talented Program

First grade Gifted and Talented designation typically follow the same standards with differentiated
instruction to meet individual needs. First-grade gifted and talented scholars would focus on advanced
early reading skills, phonics, fluency, and writing abilities. The emphasis is on literacy development and
comprehension.

Scholars would engage in learning foundational math concepts such as addition, subtraction, basic
geometry, and measurement. Our gifted and talented program provides opportunities for more
advanced exploration or enrichment in mathematical thinking.

The Next Generation Learning Standards for Science in elementary grades focus on developing inquiry
and investigative skills. Scholars explore topics in life science, physical science, and earth and space
science through hands-on activities and experiments.

talented program offers additional depth or opportunities for exploring more complex topics within the

Seccond Grade

2nd Grade covers a diverse range of skills across subjects. In English Language Arts (ELA), scholars will continue developing reading and writing skills, including comprehension, fluency, and basic grammar.   In Mathematics, 2nd-grade scholars will deepen their understanding of foundational concepts such as addition, subtraction, and place value. The standards encourage problem-solving and the application of mathematical reasoning.

In Science, scholars will explore topics such as life science, physical science, and earth and space science. They will engage in hands-on investigations and develop a foundational understanding of scientific principles.

Social studies standards for 2nd graders may cover communities, historical figures, and geography, fostering an understanding of the world around them.
